Common sense!

My condolences to all who got ripped off in Budapest or Hungary. There is only one good advice: just as you do not accept rides from the toothless arabs loitering around JFK airport in New York, you do not accept similar offers in Budapest.

Remember what you momma said: do not accept sweets from strangers. I am sorry if I sound rather scolding, but the gullibility of some people leaves me stunned. I am an Aussie who spent a fair bit of time in Budapest in recent years. I found the place possibly the funnest and most hospitable in EU and have never had any trouble.

Remember that a good place does not need to hunt people down off the street, and this applies to any city! So please, all of you, just have some common sense and stay safe, wherever you go.

Local Hells Angels chapter

Stayed in the same street for a week and walked by this club almost every night. Only one night we were asked to get in but I refused since I've already had read other horror stories about nightclubs in Budapest.

One thing I noticed was a big Hells Angels sticker on the door. The next day I saw the same sticker on the door of a night club at Vaci Utca. The biggest give-away those clubs are connected was the doorman, the same one that asked to get in at the Aphrodite.

So I believe it's a Hells Angels operation and probably they have more clubs in Budapest running.

We recently had a similar experience to the above, We did pay them �80 each between me and my friend and made a run foor it. Please take the advise and never go to the aphradite!!!

Wow so sorry (and surprised!) to see that a similar thing has happened to you guys! It was a very scarey and unfortunate thing that happened to all of us.

I'm really determined to try and get the police to close the place down but what would be the process?

Hello Dave,

Now I have a reminding of my exp.
My Name is.... i am german and I was some month ago also in Budapest. I was in my Hotel and boring, so I sad lets go out of a drink.

I go in this "Aphrodite Lap Dance" and had a drink. Directly 2 girls come beside me and talk to me. They ask for a drink and (after I checked the price) I sad-ok.

After 1 1/2hours I will go! Ask for the bilk and get an incredible high invoice! I saw that this bilk was around 500?! For what I ask this 3-4 guys!

They told me: for this fun that you had! I sad ok- call the police! This guy i will say the owner or "manager" sad: ok, I� ll call my albanien-friends and they will "help" you to pay...... He take his mobile and spoke to someone.

I got real affraid. I sad ok I didn' have enough money with me but in the hotel I have. (The only thing what I want is to be in public.... He sad ok we call a taxi and than we go together to your hotel!

Taxi comes and I go inside the taxi.
I told the driver that this people will ripp me up and also kill me. Please drive to a police station.

The doorguy on the backseat sad something in Hungarian and the driver doesn�t start the tour.

I sad I dont leave the taxi, only with police! He also sad that the guy on the backseat sad that I haven�t money to pay the taxi anymore!

I sad I have- and showed him around 25? the rest of my money. The guy on the backseat left the taxi and another one comes to the taxi. ..... come on leave the Taxi and be a man, pay for what what you had!

I sad - no only with police!

He sad: Never come back to Budapest and let me leave! Now I had a Problem because my Car is standing direktly in front of this club. The Taxidriver drove for a while around and after 30 min I came back, jump out of the Taxi inside my car and leaved this place as fast as possible.

But listen-Guys of this "F...g" Aphrodite! I �ll be back and bring a good suprise with me! I hope you have fun than too ;)))

On a recent trip to Budapest a friend and I entered this bar at 5am saying we just wanted a beer as the doorman told us it was open for only a further half hour. We had been warned against going into such clubs so carefully agreed the price of the beer and only paid this amount. Within seconds of sitting down, 4 girls sat on our laps and offered lap dancing and to share drinks with them. We refused. I was told that it was not possible to stay so stood up to leave. The two girls on my friend took their tops off and started dancing, but he also stood up and said no, however the girls started screaming demanding money and 3 large bouncers moved around saying "this is not a game". We were petrified so offered to pay the demanded 20,000 hungarian forints, �65, but only had 9,000 on us. I said I would get more money from my room across the road at Mercure Hotel and left, pursued by 2 large bouncers trying to get me to the cash machine instead. My friend was held hostage and the door locked. When I returned with only another 9,000, and the price had now escalated to 50,000 I saw an opportunity to run from the door so gave the nod to my friend and we threw the money at them and ran, managing to escape without looking back, and the Hotel had to hide us in fear the bouncers would enter the Hotel!
Should be closed down and everyone arrested.

I feel sorry for the ftouble you describe! I feel very sorry but I would like to add some comments:
Recently, a few days before, one young Aussie guy (20 year old) travelling with his father in the famous Greek island Myconos (...) was beaten by four privat-security guys of a night club with NO reason! The young boy, unfortunately, was beaten till almost to dye and now is clinic dead!
I have spent a lot of trips in Hungary and Budapest. I use to travel there more than 16 years, almost, every second month without to oppose any single problem! Of course, I never visit night-clubs, dirty-"corners" as every city "offers"! Budapest and Hungary are civilised places, so, you have many nice and safe "points" to enjoy. Please, try them and refuge places as this and other night-clubs. These "places" are, at minimum, dangerous for everybody, everywhere!

PS: I'm a Greek and more than for you, I feel sorry for the father of clinic-dead young Australian tourist.
