Budapest Autumn Festival is for You!

Budapest is a Festival City. Every season has its own festival so visitors to the Hungarian capital always have plenty of cultural programs to choose from.

The Budapest Autumn Festival takes place between 8th - 17th October, 2010. This festival focuses on contemporary art. Striking performances in music, dance, film, photography and computer art.

The first Budapest Autumn Festival was in 1992. Since then the festival has been renewed and has taken up a new role as a mediator between artists and the public.

The festival aims to rejuvenate people, at least in spirit. This year's theme is "Present Tense".

Talents from more than 12 countries, close to 90 programmes. It's hard to choose which one to visit.

We've listed our choices from the festival's rich programme.

The Budapest Autumn Festival opens with a sculpture exhibition, you'll see the artworks in the city's busiest squares.

Ici-Même-Citysound: Every afternoon during the Festival the Ici-Même group from Grenoble will come into contact with curious passers-by, involving them in a new dimension of urban research with the aid of simple mobile devices.

Music programmes include a three-day percussion festival. For a great dance experience visit the 40-old Israeli dance group, the Batsheva Dance Company's performance, the Mamootot.

Ensemble Ictus-Fausto Romitelli-An Index of Metals-2005.10.14 19:30 Mafilm III-IV. Studio: a quasi-opera by Fausto Romitelli (1963-2004), the Italian composer who died at a tragically early age. The work questions the borders between “high” and “low” art, it will be presented by the most experienced ensemble of contemporary music theatre, the Flemish Ensemble Ictus

Cities and Women –2005.10.15 18:00 VAM IDC Gallery: the Art of Femininity is a fashion festival tied in with a fashion show.

Design for the Dark - design for the visually impaired- 2005.10.15 16:00 National Institute for Blind and Czech Centre
The works displayed in this exhibition arrived in Budapest from New York. The idea of the design project is to help the life of the blind and the partially impaired sighted. The objects displayed are prototypes waiting for a manufacturer. The objects include kitchen utensils and practical objects with Latin and Braille script, as well as clothes and toys.

Bach and contemporary improvisation-2005.10.19 22:00 Academy of Music Organ, saxophone, Bach. In a unique concert experiment, you will hear Bach chorales that were unusual and even shocking in their day on the organ together with contemporary improvisations, in an attempt to give an idea of what the “avant-garde” – the music of Bach – must have meant in the early 18th century.

Shop-window exhibitions-windows of shopping malls, shopping centres and supermarkets at Budapest’s busiest precincts will exhibit products designed buy product designer students.

Berliner Volksbühne Bulgakov-The Master and Margarita:
2005.10.23 19:00 National Theatre
The legendary Berliner Volksbühne is coming to Budapest, bringing its spectacular and unusual stage adaptation of Bulgakov’s novel that has survived numerous interpretations.

Rainforest 21- 2005.10.23 20:00 Millenaris Fogadó
Classical Indian music and jazz improvisation, North America and Inner Asia, elemental music energies and Far Eastern philosophies, all in a single concert.
