Hotel Gellert

Be very careful about which room you are given if you stay at this Hotel. We had rooms on the fourth floor, 451 and 459, and they had not been renovated. The decor was tired and scruffy. The toilet smelled and it was a smoking room with the stale smell of cigarettes.
The Gellert is supposed to be a 4 star Hotel. Our rooms were no better than 2 star. The Manager we complained to either could not be bothered or had no authority and referred us to the Manager on duty the following day.
In fact when our friends took him to their room and asked where the view of the patio and pool was, he said 'if you jump up in the air your may see the patio'. His attitude was no acceptable.
The duty Manager the following day was apologetic and could not understand why we had not been offered other rooms.
My question is - Why were we allocated these rooms in the first place? We booked non smoking rooms with a view of the patio and pool.
We have been asked to put our complaints in writing which we are doing. We were offered other rooms but it was too late as we had decided to move to another Hotel - the NH which was very good. Not impressed. Door staff and cab drivers told us the Hotel was living on past reputation and was not doing very well.
I must say that some of the Hotel looked very smart and the dining room was excellent, but behind the scenes I think they have problems, especially with one of the Managers.
