watch out in Budapest especially in Vaci Street by: Anonymous
I've been living in Budapest for about 6 months.Last friday( 3 days ago), i just wanted to walk around the city at night.Near the Intercontinental and at the end of Vaci street, i came across with 3 prostitutes that told me to have sex with them.ok,they're fine.they just wanna do it and get their money,no cheat, i suppose.but then i walked through the Vaci street and first 2 Hungarians asked me(first Hungarian and then English as i cant speak Hungarian) whether i have a map and whether i know a good pub/bar.i said i dont know much about the bars in Budapest.and they asked me what i am doing in Budapest.i told them that i am married and as my wife was at a celebration in her workplace, i was bored at home and wanted to walk around. and then they left.
Righ after them, 2 girls asked me whether i have a map( in English).i am sure they heard me talking English with the previous 2 girls, thats why they asked me in English in the first place. i said yes i do. then i showed them. and they told me that they are from Croatia, visiting Budapest then they asked me whether i know a good pub/bar.i told the same things to them as i said to the girls i talked previously. i answered honestly what they asked me as i didnt think that they were cheaters and as i didnt know that such things happen in Budapest, cuz i dont like nightlife. so anyway, we talked about stuff and then they told me to come to any bar with them.i said that i had to go. but i told them that i could walk with them till the bar. we walked 30 metres, and there were a bar!? they went in and i went my way. The next day, i thought, why the hell would 4 girls ask me ways and pubs? i didnt look like a city guide or something. i searched on internet and found information about this.and i see that those girls just wanted to cheat me.
My advise to you all who is living in or visiting Budapest is: NEVER ever listen to any girl in Budapest, at night and especially, on Vaci Utca( street). if you come across with them, just say "no" and keep walking. Be careful ! Dont get fooled !

They're all on the take by: Jeff
All of the posts I've read are exactly what happened to me on 2/14/2010... that's right, Valentine's Day. Lured to the club by two girls who play the gypsy con to a tee! The first menu differed from the final one and even though I had a buzz on due to the drinks/drugs they provided, I have full memory of the event. Funny thing, I reported it to the police (District V) and they turned a blind eye to the situation as did the reception desk at the InterContinental Hotel where I stayed. Go to the US Embassy Hungary website under tourist information and you'll see this is done routinely.
Good luck in Budapest, Jeff from USA

Excellent trap! by: Anonymous
I fell in this excellent trap. I think that they are looking for people that are going to leave Budapest in a short time (to avoid complaints to embassy etc).
I got drunk instantly. They also tried to lure me to a spa (I was not interested so I cannot provide more info).
I met the blonde and the "Asian". If the trap for "Városközpont" is not working, they try another place (I did the experiment the day after).
Why this kind of information is not distributed in the airport and hotels?
Is the Hungarian police getting a share of this business? I think that there is nothing relevant in their web page.

It is a trap by: Anonymous
These two lovely ladies "did not know" about the club, but saw people going there... So we tried it also and had a very expensive wine.
Be careful with this!

TURIST TRAP!! by: Anonymous
Just yesterday 15.09.2009 I fell in this trap. I was walking in the street when i was approched by 2 girls who asked me for information. Then they invited me to drink something but in the end I had to pay more than 200.000 huf. I'm sure the 2 girls work for the club. I would inform the police. I also remained without the money to get to the airport and i found myself in big trouble.

tourist trap by: Anonymous
I fell in this trap, we had to pay more than 120.000FT which represents more than 500eur. The girls had no money and wanted me to "help" them. I paid my part (1/3) and left.
AVOID THIS PLACE AND THOSE 2 B*****s
one is blond and the other is Asian. They were asking their way, searching for a place to drink something near Hermes (monument in the street).

Watch out Vaci Utca 16 by: Anonymous
Be aware of two girls. Very nice, but oh so innocent. I have to pay more than 200.000,- There is working a blond girl also at the bar. I think they are working together. I will recommend to contact the police next time.

Sjoerd

Tourist Trap in the center of Budapest by: Roberto
Location: BP. Vaci Utca 16. 1052 Budapest (Outside elevator) - Company: Balaton KFT.
ATTENTION - This is a real tourist trap!
Very friendly girls are asking you for some support on the street and suggest to just have a short drink in a bar around the corner, but at the end you pay up to 180.000 HUF for your help and for a chat.
