Note: Unfortunately the Wine Village will not be held this year due to disagreement related to permit issues between the organisers and Budapest city. Hopefulyl the issue will be solved and the wine festival will be held next year.
If you're in Budapest in August include a visit to the Wine Village (Borfalu in Hungarian) to sample and learn about Hungarian wines.

The first Wine Village was held in 2004 and since then the event is a highlight of August programs in Budapest.

Basic Information - Wine Village Budapest
Location: Ötvenhatosok tere, behind the Museum of Fine Arts
Getting there: tram 4 or 6 to Oktogon, from there M3 (yellow) metro to Hősök tere station
Opening hours: 12.00-24.00 every day between 19th-24th Auguts, 2008
Entry fee: 1500 HUF (whole day), free for handicapped persons and children under the age of 12. A nice tasting glass with the logof of the event emblezoned is included in the price.
5-day pass: 7000 HUF
More than 100 Hungarian wineries offer a taste of their products and an insight into the characteristics of their wines.
Even if you're not so enthusiastic about wines a range of programs ensures that you'll have a good time.
A wine festival is not complete without gastronomy programs.
Between to wine samplings taste some of the food delicacies: fried sausage and black pudding, grilled meats, stuffed cabbage, goulash are the heartier offerings. For lighter snacks try langalló a kind of bread baked in furnace and served with sour cream.
And there's of course kürtös kalács (cylinder shape pastry baked over open fire and coated with sugar, ground walnuts, or cinnamon) another essential part of any Hungarian festival.

Main Programs of the Wine Village in Budapest
Every year the event focuses on a main theme and offers programas related to this topic. In 2008 Hungarian wine villages will be in the limelight.
In the Wine Competition this year visitors can vote and select the best wine of the event.
Everyone receives a voting form when buying tickets at the entrance and votes can be handed in next to the Information stall.
The Finest Wine of the Wine Village 2008 in 4 categories (white, red, rose and fröccs wines) will be decided on the last day of the program buy counting which wine producer recived the highest number of votes.
Families with kids will enjoy the Wine Village, too. Kids vcan participate in the Drawing Competition for Children where Scooby Doo dog will aid the little ones. Every participants receives a small gift and every day a winner will be selected who will get a first prize.
To ensure a real festival atmosphere varoius music bands will entertain visitors. There'll be gypsy music by the Wine Village's Gypsy Band but a range of other music genres weill be represented too. Just to name of you bands:

TIP: If you miss the Wine Village in August you still have a chance to get to know Hungarian wines in the International Wine and Champagne Festival in Budapest's Castle District at the first of second weekend of every September.
Attractions Nearby Wine Village in Budapest
The Heroes' Square with the imposing historic monuments is next to the venue of Wine Village.
If you feel like going for a walk than head for City Park (Városliget), which is Budapest largest park with peaceful groves, a lake, Vajdahunyad Castle and the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
If you're in a museumm-viisting mood you're at the right spot because two museums stand on Ötvenhatoosk tere: the Museum of Fine Arts and the Hall of Arts (Műcsarnok) featuring Hungarian and international contemporary art exhibits.
